50 U.S. States? Think Again.

Silicon Valley Set to Become America’s Official 51st State

From Alabama through to Wyoming, we all know the 50 United States of America. Or…do we? History as we know it is changing lanes with the potential emergence of America’s newest official state, Silicon Valley.

My name is Alex Lazovsky, a venture capitalist from Palo Alto, CA. I recently raised $100M to turn this global hub of tech and innovation into its very own state.

Surprisingly, I’m not the first to tackle this challenging mission.

Famous venture capitalist investor, Tim Draper, tried and failed to make Silicon Valley a state. Unfortunately, Tim seriously underestimated the time and cost involved with such an undertaking. He also proposed an unrealistic plan, suggesting California be split into six separate states. After Tim’s initial suggestion in 2012 and 2014, he later changed his mind and suggested three States instead — Northern California, California (new), and Southern California.

My plan is different, and I have reason to believe it will succeed in ways Tim Draper could only have imagined. Instead of proposing three new States, I believe Silicon Valley should be the sole new one — for various reasons. Contrary to what some might believe, I am not out for political gain. I am also not interested in seeing more California Senators be put on a pedestal in Washington, nor am I out to shuffle the scales of power between the nation’s Democratic and Republican parties. I also have no desire to influence legislature.

My goal is simple: To empower the entire world to confidently move past global crises. Starting with COVID-19.

Whether the new coronavirus is a mutated bat virus, or something more sinister engineered in a lab, one thing is for certain: the world has come to an economic and humanitarian standstill. Second and third-world countries are being hit the hardest, ill-equipped to rise to the challenge, support their people, or find effective treatments.

So, you might be wondering how Silicon Valley’s presence as an official state will make a difference in this regard. Simply put, by creating the first state capable of swiftly overcoming crises of a COVID-19 nature, we will have a state to turn to for the health and function of the rest of the U.S. — and the world. We will have at least one state immune to disaster, be it a virus or market crash. With Silicon Valley able to overcome a crisis of any nature, we can change the world.

So — why Silicon Valley? And how will it change the world? Simple.

Through the power of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

My proposal is to create the nation’s, and world’s, first state to be digitally-driven and underpinned by the powers of technology and AI. What better candidate than Silicon Valley, the technology capital of the world?

I have collaborated with some of the nation’s most influential technology corporations and tycoons who found success through investments in technology. More than 50% of the world’s Unicorns (a privately-held startup company valued at $1B+) are born in the USA, accompanied by some of the planet’s most prominent tech giants and billionaire technology investors, not to mention the largest venture capital and private equity funds. California, Silicon Valley in particular, is home to the most tech moguls and billionaires. Acquiring the funding to turn Silicon Valley into the USA’s official 51st State was not the challenge some would think.

Silicon Valley is one of the globe’s most unique technological empires, with all the machine precision needed to keep the area self-sustainable and independent of other resources. It’s no wonder so many billionaires call the region home. Our roads are already filled with driverless cars from household names like Waymo, Tesla, Nuro, Embark Trucks, Zoox, Plus.ai, Aurora Innovation, Starsky Robotics, TuSimple, and beyond. Such companies will allow transportation and freight delivery to remain active even in the face of a global lockdown, keeping the economy alive no matter what’s happening in the world.

Transport isn’t the only thing Silicon Valley could keep going as a state. Food production could stay alive and kicking too, through the use of robotic technologies and advanced food production concepts. We are already seeing many of these emerge through companies including Beyond Meat, Impossible Foods, Memphis Meats, and BlueNalu. Without the need for human farmers, we can keep production and supply active and uninterrupted. In fact, we can build a new kind of state completely independent of people.

We won’t even need restaurants, which can be replaced with the likes of CloudKitchens, OneKitchen, Ghost Kitchen, Rebel Foods, and beyond. We can have dinner dates over Zoom to emulate the real thing, and when it comes to delivery, this can all be performed by those self-driving cars we were talking about earlier — after customers have placed their orders via smart home systems the likes of Alexa, Echo, or Google Home.

…оr a citizen’s AI bot will manage subscriptions, which will guide food deliveries. Restaurants with physical locations will be prohibited simply because they are too difficult to automate. Based on fully-automated feedback from AI bots reporting on their human counterpart, the demand for pipeline food preparation is predicted.

What about pharmaceuticals and medication? This can also be completely fulfilled via smart home systems and drone deliveries. It’s no secret that Telemedicine is changing the world, from Amwell to Teladoc Health to MDLive. From remote patient monitoring to AI diagnostics and even robotic surgery, we can treat an unlimited number of patients without human intervention.

Accompanied by Amazon autonomous delivery robots and Starship Robotics, humans will never need to play a role in community supply and demand — making virus lockdowns easier, stopping the spread of transmission, and bringing crises to a close faster than ever before.

In fact, human driving will be prohibited in Silicon Valley. Only AI bots will be allowed to operate vehicles and heavy machinery.

To avoid wasting AI time and resources, humans will be required to take fencing lessons, which will improve mental agility for the rare occasion humans interact with AI. A quick sport, fencing involves split-second decisions. A good fencer possesses logic and strategy. Just like a game of chess played out in real life, fencing helps humans improve analytical capabilities, requiring they quickly assess situations. Fencing lessons will help humans not only be light on their feet, but light in their thoughts. Because fencing is an art, emotion and rational thought battle in a fencer’s mind, resulting in mental agility. Fencers learn mental and physical agility, allowing them to move quickly and decisively. Fencing and agility are all about control matched with speed.

With fencing lessons, humans will be up to the task of interacting with AI, as well as using resources efficiently.

Then, humans will take a programming language proficiency test to prove their ability to operate an AI bot. If a human lacks the skill, they must study government-sponsored courses or risk losing citizenship access, i.e. losing access to bots.

With Silicon Valley as a state, we can even use AI and Machine Learning (ML) technology to develop new treatments, medications, and vaccines, from Fountain Therapeutics to Healx, InSilico Medicine, and beyond. Cloud technology would also play a big role, from Amazon to Google, Microsoft, Snowflake, Databricks, Samsara, and Netskope.

No matter the state of the globe’s economy, health, or wealth, anything will be possible with the world’s first AI-driven state.

But why stop with actual humans to build a community? Let’s grant citizenship to AI that passes the essay/Turing test. Obligating corporations to build AI that communicates with other citizens, we can “talk with Facebook,” applying personal law to interactions. Represented by their AI bot identity, corporations are treated as if they were actual people.

One step beyond granting citizenship to AI, Silicon Valley will remove old repressive labeling such as sex and age in documenting citizenship. With annual upgrades, age would zero out with each update.

Government will take a minority stake in every startup company. An AI bot will govern by logic or direct just-in-time citizen-AI majority votes. Corporations will be citizens.

Humans can own many corporations with functional modules executed by humans. Then, automated function modules will replace the human execution with initial versions provided by existing Silicon Valley companies. A human may operate the citizen-bot remotely and may even have multiple citizen-bots, paying subscription fees (taxes) in BTC for each connection to the government bot.

All taxes will be paid in BTC. The transactions will be made exclusively through the AI bot.

While we’re at it, we may as well provide AI bot personas to humans, complete with cloud resources sponsored by the state. Then, the AI bot can represent the human at official bureaucratic business. The AI bot can install knowledge modules from various industries to provide legal representation, as an example.

So, what are we doing with the funding?

Now that I have gathered the necessary capital, I am building a strong army of experienced team players ready to launch the campaign. While it will take some time to gather enough signatures and votes, not to mention get approval from both houses of the California Legislature and pass it onto U.S. Congress, there is no rush.

We must be patient (but persistent) if we want to make the biggest change this nation has seen in over a century. We need to get this right if we really want to make a difference and empower the world to keep calm and carry on, even in the face of adversity.

…but it was an attempt to encourage and challenge you to think about possible long term solutions, efforts and strategies that developed countries should undertake to help and protect their citizens in a most efficient way.

I hope it inspires you to think of long-term solutions in a world plagued by crisis after crisis. As a developed nation, it is our responsibility to help our developing counterparts survive during trying times, now and in the future.
